Ok... it started out that we were going to see a movie. So we dropped off Gabriel at my mom's and headed out. Only to discover that every other couple had the same idea and the line at the movie's ticket counter was proof. We got in line and were next to buy our seats when a sign was posted that our movie was sold out! Ok, ok, so we decided to just pick one that was next. Unfortunately, nothing was showing for three more hours in any category (whatever happened to eight and nine o'clock movies, huh?). So we purchased tickets to see a total chick flick three hours from the moment we bought them. What were we going to do for three more hours?
After calling my mom a dozen times and waking up our son each and every moment her phone rang, we decided to go to Olive Garden because, you know, who goes to Olive Garden on Valentine's Day? Apparently everyone, and our hour and a half wait for a table was proof. So we get our little saucer that will light up and vibrate when we will be allowed to embrace our meals. Josh and I didn't really feel like huddling in the corner waiting for minutes to tick by, so we went to the Starbucks across the parking lot (since there is a Starbucks every third building over here).

When we had our coffees and the biggest, fluffiest, most gigantic chairs possible, our saucer starts going crazy. It had only been like fifteen minutes. We couldn't have a table already. So we grab all our stuff and head back to the Olive Garden only to discover that they unplugged all the little saucer guys and everyones was going off. Nice! Bye Bye giant fluffy comfortable hour of waiting, hello strange corner of a spackled part of the wall.
After an hour went by (for real this time), we got our seat and ate for the first time in a year without our little guy.... and it was hard. I was really missing him. There was this couple beside us and behind us with kids within months of Gabriel's age, just playing and making noise and being babies and making me feel like the worst person in the world for leaving my son at his Nana's. So, when Josh finished his four shots (two doubles) of Rum and Coke, we paid our waiter and headed out.
Still fourty minutes till our chick flick and I was going through withdrawals. I told Josh we had to head back to my mom's and he understood. On the way back, Josh started to get all blurry eyed and red in the face (those shots to help him get through the chick flick were getting to him), so I told him I understood if he didn't want to see the movie. He was a trooper and going to anyway, but I told him I'd take my mom and he could crash at her house with misters while us ladies have a quick V-Day movie. He was much appreciative.

Kissing our son goodbye, and noticing how Josh barely reached the couch before Mr. Sandman came and got him, mom and I headed out to see Confessions of a Shopaholic. I know, Josh was a brave man for even attempting to go. ;)
So now, after gianormous comfy chairs, irratic saucer things, and our first real date in a year (partly with my mom), Josh and I are good to go for awhile. Maybe on our next date night we'll make reservations. :)
Happy Valentines Day!
